i workout and i usually take a post workout shake or eat some simple carb food ie cereal post workout to restore muscle glycogen and since these things are now not allowed what would be best to have after my workout?
I asked a similar question on my blog - this is what melissa replied:
"Post workout drink idea...half a cup plain whole milk (raw if possible) yogurt, frozen fruit of your choice, stevia or agave if not sweet enough with fruit alone, I add ground flax seeds. Add enough water to make it drinkable. Yummm. Also water is always good...."
As George said fruit is a good option. Unless your a competitive athlete where every little thing you do counts then i wouldn't get too hung up on what type of carb you have after you train. Just try to get the 'carbiest' meal of the day within your 30 minutes window after you finish the session.
Also add protein to your post-workout carb intake. Using 15 g of protein for every 50 lbs of bodyweight, will increase glycogen storage by as much as 40%.
With regards to you other question about whey protein, i would try to avoid it as best as you can for a big number of reasons. There are some high quality protein powders out there but they are very expensive and can't replace food. If you really must have a protein powder then follow the link below to find a really high quality protein.
