Hi Dax,

I do have a question about what we ate tonight. I know that white rice is not on the approved list. What is the difference in how our body processes the rice noodles or rice flour? I made the Spicy Thai chicken over rice noodles and really liked it. But, as we ate, I wondered about the difference?

Most of my research has been centered around Body For Life and how those foods affect us. Then through doing BFL for six months, I ran into someone that mentioned Holly Rigsby. I looked her up on the internet and soon found that her principles were very similiar to what I was learning. Which in turn led me to you and your Elimination Diet. I hope you don't mind but I may be back for more questions as they come:) Actually, that comment just triggered my mind for a few others:)

I made the hummus recipe from the cookbook. Really loved it! Can you eat too much of that? I have been taking it with me along with cut up carrots and cherry tomatoes. I have not had the flu like symptoms and wondered if that would also be normal? I usually eat just like your elimination diet during the week and then take a few cheat meals on the weekends. I don't drink coffee and have one diet drink a day. I rarely use sugar. But, I do use a sugar substitute. Right now I feel more bloated than anything. Could it be possible that I don't have the detox down right? I drink over 3 liters of water everyday.

I do appreciate your help so much!

Dax,

After I read that last paragraph, I was afraid it wasn't clear. Let me clarify. I am doing the elimination diet as described in your book. Before I did ED, I at like the above with little caffeine or sugar. I just wanted to clarify that I was not trying to use those things while doing the ED.

Ok, some good questions here : )

First, the Elimination diet is designed to target all of the most common problem foods and it takes care of 90% of all issues.

However, as people are individuals, some of us can tolerate certain things and others can't.

It may well be that one or more foods you're eating may bey disagreeing with you.

For example, whilst yoghurt and butter are regarded as 'safe' foods for most people, some cannot tolerate them so well.

Likewise beans and peas (hummus) and other foods.

I would suggest cutting back on the hummus and yogurt initially and then add them back slowly and one at a time to see their effect.

This normally does the trick in identifying the problems : )

Dax, I do have a few more questions. On the approved list, it says butter. I have been cooking egg plant in butter and adding it to fresh cooked green beans. Is that using it too much? I know you said not to count but can you overeat still?

We live in Beijing, China. I am not able to buy very many things that are organic. Is that going to slow us down?

I also wanted to ask about the veggies. we are trying to have a variety of veggies but found that many have to be cooked. Is it best to eat more of fresh, raw veggies?

My husband was not real sold on the idea of "another" diet but agreed to start with me 6 days ago. He is now won over with having lost 4 pounds! He was pretty excited before he went for his jog this morning:) I have done like you suggested and tried to make many different vegetables. We can get some odd things here in Beijing but I found being able to use olive oil or butter without any worries has added to the range of vegetables we are willing to try. We have never eaten so many vegetables. Can I also ask about potatoes, sweet potatoes and brown rice? Is it better to eat those things before 3:00 in the afternoon? (That is one of the things I had read while researching) I need to know what is truth from research so I can debunk the false ideas:)

Thank you for your help! I know you are very busy but I appreciate your time!

It's great that you're eating so many vegetables but I just thought, there may be some veggies that are contributing to the bloating as many give off gas as they are digested.

See if you can identify the gas/bloat forming veggies by keeping a food diary for a few days.

Also, make sure that you fully chew each mouthful of your food as the digestion and enzymatic processes begin in the mouth and so, if you don't chew enough, you don't help the digestion.

Regarding the 3:00 in the afternoon 'thing'. Ignore it, it's a common fallacy but not founded upon any science at all, albeit that it sounds like it makes sense.

In many cultures, people eat hardly anything all day and eat HUGE meals in the evening right?

In fact, look at at typical Asian eating regime and it's much more weighted to the evening meal than any other and most Asians are not fat (unless they eat western foods).

Hope this helps

Hi Patty,
I can help you with that... Intigrated movement training, that's what Dax recommends, and I can't remember now if I got it here on the site or elsewhere but it was through Dax, I'm sure if the link isn't on here somewhere that you can get it from Dax. It takes about 10 minutes twice a day. It uses all your muscle groups, I believe it's something like 600 muscles. It really helps with toning and balance. I have to admit I haven't been as faithful as I should with it, but they are great exercises! And you don't need much equipment which is great because I'm on a really tight budget! Good luck!

Dax,
My biggest problem has been having to give up bread. I've found organic rye flour here, but can't find a recipe that doesn't use any sugar. Is it okay to use the small amount of sugar needed to get the yeast to rise? Or do you have a recipe for bread that is okay? I did find I have a problem with wheat while doing my first round of Elimination, but can not imagine giving bread up completely. I guess I could stand to give it up for another 21 days if I can't find a recipe that is acceptable. I also haven't been able to find Stevia or Agave here, so using those aren't an option for now any way.

Also, a question about the cookbook upgrades. I will be on an extended vacation to see my family beginning in May. Is it okay to down load the updates to a different computer(my sisters) during that time.
Thanks again for all your helpful advice!

Hey Suzanne

Personally, I'd quit bread for a bit longer... especially if you found wheat to be a problem.

Yes, you may download the book from another computer : )

Okay,

So I did a half ass attempt at the diet the first time...Had the worst headache of my life the first night and the next day I was back on caffine...Then I was eating pickels and realized, oh, can't have that, but did anyway...

BUT, now, today, I'm actually going to do this. Nothing from the banned list, but, I know that headache is coming and I need to work. Can I use Advil or Tylenol? I also have a fish oil pill and calcium Vitamin D pill in the morning. Is that okay?
I am a very active person. I work out once or twice a day 6 days a week doing running, cycling, swimming and resistance training, is it okay to keep up that schedule while I start out the ED again?

Thanks for your help

Dax,

Is this diet something you can do as a lifestyle until you reach desired weight or will the weight loss stop over time? I haven't had earth shattering numbers drop yet but I am only on day 7:)

Hey Nancy

Weight loss WILL stop over time as weight loss was never the intended goal of the diet.

Health is.

Let me explain.

Most people are unhealthily overweight or, more correctly, over-fat.

The elimination diet will help people to lose fat and excess weight to the degree that they are unhealthy, then the weight los will cease.

This is good or after 2 years we've weigh 10lbs : )

Don't worry so much about WEIGHT and focus more on how your body, hair, skin, nails etc feel and how many inches of figure blurring fat is coming off.

This is the REAL benefit of following the diet and, yes, it can be followed as a principle for life.

Hope this helps

Thanks Dax,

I am trying to reprogram my mind in order to grasp the other benfits besides weight loss. I do know that my hair has been fuller, my skin more smooth and clothes are looser. I have to say that I am sold on this diet. Thank you for your research in order to help others know how to get the most healthy body possible!
